Herbs for Anemia

In 7 decades, we have never been diagnosed with anemia – but we know people who have been. So, in researching herbal & nutritional remedies for our loved ones, I came up with five mighty herbs that can supply needed nutrients or actually reverse anemia. One of these herbs was a complete surprise!

Actually, anemia is most often a symptom of other diseases & conditions. These include:

  • Glaucoma & cataracts linked to adrenal exhaustion and anemia
  • Dietary deficiencies – iron, folic acid, B6, B12
  • Chronic inflammation

Anemia is often the first sign of arthritis, infection, or a major disease such as cancer.

When blood does not have enough red blood cells to supply the oxygen needs of your organs and tissues, the result is anemia. You feel tired, weak, short of breath, lightheaded or dizzy – and you may feel irritable, pale, cold and experience rapid heartbeat & chest pain.

Reportedly, the following can lead to anemia:

  • drug use
  • hormonal disorders
  • surgery
  • infections
  • liver damage
  • thyroid disorders
  • heavy menstrual bleeding
  • chronic inflammation
  • bone marrow disease
  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • hemorrhoids
  • diverticulitis

So what are the five Mighty Fortress herbs that help you fight anemia?

  1. Sweet Cicely (Myrrhis odorata) – the whole plant is a medicinal powerhouse!
  2. Singing Nettles – vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, sodium & fatty acids
  3. Dandelion plant – best liver tonic
  4. Yarrow – fights infections
  5. Ashwaganda (Withania somnifera)

Other important herbs & nutritional supplements include alfalfa (vitamin K), chives (iron), elecampane, fenugreek, St. Johnswort, Panax Ginseng and blackstrap molasses (B vitamins & iron).

Interested in power juices for anemia? Blackberry juice is high in potassium, as is huckleberry juice (with added anthocyanosides). Spinach juice provides iron, but avoid this if you have infections, or else your liver-stored iron PLUS extra iron from spinach will feed bacteria.
